Silicosen and Bio-Silico are air-permeable silicone rubber plugs for tubes and erlenmeyer flasks for the cultivation of micro-organisms, yeasts, molds and others. The plugs have continuous pores giving them excellent performance and properties as substitute for conventional cotton plugs. The water evaporation rate is significantly lower which avoids cultivars to dry and concentrations to change thus making culture tests more reliable and improving repeatability of tests.
Features of Silicosen and Bio-Silico:
- Silicosen and Bio-Silico are handled more easily than conventional cotton plugs
- Silicosen and Bio-Silico are suitable for the cultivation of aerobic micro-organisms
- Bio-Silico is optimal for shaking cultures
- Silcosen has excellent heat resistance and is reusable by dry air sterilization at 180ºC or autoclaving
- Silicosen can withstand a temperature of 350ºC for a short time allowing flame sterilization
- Silicosen can withstand a temperature of 200ºC for 10000 hours
- The water evaporation rate through Silicosen is less than half of the rate through a cotton plug by which culture media will not dry or change concentrations or pH level
- Silicosen and Bio-Silico have excellent chemical resistance
- Silicosen and Bio-Silico prevent the stray entry of airborne bacteria for both stationary and shaking cultures
- Silicosen and Bio-Silico can be cleaned with hot water and neutral detergents
- Due to its hydrophobic property, Silicosen prevents microbes from proliferating on its surface even at high atmospheric moisture levels
